"Raleigh is a great experience that you probably won't get to do again, so take time out to think about your life and what you want to do, and learn from the challenges each phase brings."
Serena Brown, Costa Rica and Nicaragua expedition.
"Raleigh International is a well-established charity with over 23 years experience providing adventure and challenge expeditions. Our 5 week expedition gives you the choice of either a community or environmental project, plus a team-based adventure challenge.
A taste of what’s ahead on a Raleigh expedition
Community project
Raleigh is helping to improve living standards in some of the remotest communities by constructing fresh water systems and local school facilities. You could be living with villagers in the beautiful subsistence farming communities of the Miraflor reserve, learning Spanish and enjoying a unique cross cultural experience.
Environmental project
Over 27% of Costa Rica is designated a protected territory, our projects will help preserve the local habitat and make it more accessible. You could help build trails and bridges across the country’s National Parks network, help transform the former penal island of San Lucas, a stunning tropical expanse, into a wildlife refuge, or build a ranger station in the jungle terrain of Piedras Bancas.
Team-based adventure challenge
This seven day challenge takes in the varied landscape of Costa Rica - from mountain peaks to river crossings – and sees teams involved in a variety of group tasks to test mental and physical stamina. Negotiating the country’s stunning valleys, dense jungles and remote islands, this final stage of the expedition will see you exposed to the elements and getting a real taste of life on the wild side.
Raleigh International also runs expeditions to Malaysia and India for 10 to 4 weeks throughout the year. If you are aged 17-24, join an expedition as a venturer. Those aged 25+ can apply as volunteer managers to help lead and facilitate the expeditions for young people (full training is given therefore commitment is approximately 8 to 13 weeks). Roles include project managers, medics, logistics managers, drivers, communications officer, finance managers, administrators and photographers.

Benefits and advantages of the program: |
 |
|
Raleigh International has a permanent field base in each expedition country enabling us to build long-term partnerships with the government, NGOs and local communities and thus deliver projects that meet a genuine need and are sustainable. Thanks to our partnerships we often work in national parks and areas which other tourists don’t have access to.
Safety permeates everything we do and we have represented the industry in developing safety standards.
You will be joining volunteers from different lifestages and backgrounds, including young people from the the host country for a true exchange of cultures.
Working in small teams in a new environment, you will develop key life skills which will enhance both your professional and educational prospects.
The friends, memories, experience and skills you'll take away from a Raleigh expedition will stay with you for life. You will be joining a network of 30,000 people with similar attitudes and outlooks, keen to share their stories and keep the Raleigh spirit going.
