|
Aztec-Maya Venture traces a dramatic line through the mountains and jungles of Central America, putting you at the cultural crossroads of the Americas where the indigenous Mayans still thrive. Jungle treks, modern cities, ancient ruins and Caribbean islands combined with a conservation project make the Venture quite unique.
Language School & Expedition, Mexico:(3 weeks)
Our base is the market town Oaxaca, a few hours south of Mexico City. The tuition is stimulating and the family home-stays make you feel comfortable in your new surroundings. Weekends are free to discover the region's live music and Latin dance, and to explore the hilltop ruins of Monte Alban. The first leg of the expedition travels from Oaxaca to San Cristobal, a town Spanish in custom but Mayan in nature. Turning to the southern jungles, we explore Palenque before entering Belize.
Project & Expedition, Belize: (4 weeks)
Venture Co supports Wild tracks in Belize taking on conservation tasks such as a project assisting the release of Manatees back into the wild. After project completion we head offshore to Cay Caulker where swimming with sharks is an option (Yes, really!). Back on dry land it's time for the two-day jungle trek to the pyramids at Tikal.
Language School & Project, Guatemala: (1 week)
Arriving in Antigua, Guatemala, we stop for a week's refresher Spanish course. During the afternoons we join a local initiative to assist disadvantaged street children.
Expedition, Guatemala, Honduras, & Costa Rica:(4 weeks)
With rejuvenated language skills we explore the mountain market town Chichitananago and prepare to tackle Central America's highest peak, Tajamulco (4219m). We complete our exploration at Lago de Atitlan, a lake in a collapsed volcano. Crossing into Honduras we discover the Mayan complex at Copan, shrouded in jungle and patrolled by scarlet macaws. Our expedition now turns offshore once more and we boat across the Caribbean to Utila Island where we rest-up for a week allowing you to obtain your PADI diving certificate or explore the islands by sea kayak.
Our final destination is Costa Rica, a country with a rich biodiversity including erupting volcanoes, dense rainforest and idyllic beaches that all contribute to the Venture's spectacular finale.
