Program description: |
Baobab trees and cactus-like plants make up the dramatic landscape of the Mikea spiny forest in south west Madagascar, where you will live and work. With Sifaka lemurs leaping from one branch to another, you will be surveying the flora and fauna hardy enough to resist the region’s extreme aridity.
Over 80% of Madagascar’s animal species are endemic to this island paradise and you will monitor the distribution and abundance of these species, assess wilderness use and evaluate the impact of human populations on the wildlife. This will provide essential ecological information as a basis for plans promoting the sustainable use of forest products.
