Program description:

Nicaragua lies at the heart of Central America, ‘the land bridge of the Americas’, and is a melting pot of species from two continents. Surrounded by breathtaking volcanic landscapes and cloud-and rainforests you will be surveying areas home to rare and endangered species of jaguar and puma.

The country's diverse fauna includes 750 bird species which represent nearly 90% of all known bird species, such as the elusive quetzal. There are over 200 mammal species, 161 reptile species, and 59 amphibian species four of which are endemic to Nicaragua, including the Mombacho salamander. More than 9000 plant species have been identified in Nicaragua, with an estimated 4,000 to 5,000 still to be discovered.

Working alongside community groups who are creating and protecting the Mesoamerican Biological Corridor, you will gather vital information on habitats, species and resources, to inform sustainable management plans.
