Program description: |
You will be diving off the spectacular coastline of the exotic island of Madagascar, surveying reef fish, marine invertebrates, mangroves and coastal lagoons. You will conduct essential surveying of mangroves, bird populations and shark fisheries with local fishermen, in order to discover their reliance on the reefs and fish. Areas of coral require mapping, and through SCUBA surveys you will learn to accurately identify reef and commercial fish. Recording sightings of whales, dolphins, turtles and dugongs will also be part of your responsibilities.
The results from your investigations will supply vital information on the Madagascan coastline, to enable the sustainable management of natural resources in the region and the protection of the marine wildlife.
