|
We have an exciting new journalism placement at Radio FM Téranga located on the island in the business centre of Saint Louis. The station was founded in 1996 by current director Alioune Badara Diagne Golbert who also acts as the Teaching & Projects Abroad project supervisor. ‘Golbert’ as he is known to everyone, is a national celebrity and is keen to have volunteers working at his station.
Since its creation, Radio FM Téranga has trained 33 personnel, including journalists, comedians and reporters. The station's broadcast reaches as far as 100 to 150 kms in normal weather conditions and up to 200 kms in winter. The station broadcasts in both French and Wolof (the main tribal language of the region). Volunteers will be able to present news bulletins in French and even host their own music and chat shows. You will be able to work alongside Senegalese journalists to conduct interviews, and research and write news items. The more enthusiasm you have the more you will gain from your placement.
Radio FM Téranga has two DJ booths and is the only private radio station in Saint Louis. This guarantees the station an excellent reputation for unbiased reporting and gives all volunteers the freedom to use their own ideas and produce features of particular interest to them.
