Being a swimming coach really can change lives. Many developing countries have high numbers of people who cannot swim. This leads to regular drownings that can be easily avoided through teaching children basic swim techniques.
The government subsidise swimming lessons for township schools so the pupils can receive lessons at local pools. However, there is still a lack of swim instructors and general assistants to help supervise the sessions. Therefore, whether you have recognised qualifications, or simply enjoy swimming and interacting with kids, there is a place for you.
Whether you end up coaching provincial swimmers or teaching newcomers to the pool, not only will you make an important impact to sports development, you will equip children with skills that could end up saving their lives.
