Program description:

The Republic of Armenia or Armenia is a landlocked country in southern Caucasus, between the Black Sea and the Caspian Sea, bordered by Turkey to the west, Georgia to the north, Azerbaijan in the east and Iran (Persia) and the Naxçývan exclave of Azerbaijan in the south. Armenia is a member of the Council of Europe and the Commonwealth of Independent States and for centuries has been on the crossroads between West and East.

The terrain is mostly mountainous, with fast flowing rivers and few forests. The climate is highland continental: hot summers and cold winters. The land rises to 4,095 m above sea-level at Mount Ararat, and no point is below 400m. Mount Ararat, a well known Armenian symbol, is the highest mountain in the region and used to be part of Armenia up until around 1915 when Turkey took over land from Armenia.

Yerevan, by any comparative measure, is a very safe city for its size (about 1 million people), and safer than most cities in Europe or the USA. Random crimes against individuals such as muggings, robbery, etc. are rare. Nevertheless, it is always prudent not to make yourself a target. Keep welling lit, main streets at night, taking taxis anytime after 10 pm and travelling with friends whenever possible. Avoid displaying large sums of money; be aware of your surroundings and any suspicious individuals. Large markets such as the Vernissage or Hrazdan are attractive to pickpockets because of the hustle and bustle and the crowds. Do not carry purses or backpacks which can be easily opened. Economic hardship has brought with it an influx of beggars and street children, but most are harmless.

The Organisation

Our Partner in Armenia is registered by the Government and legally has to abide by all government regulations. This is your guarantee that your money is always protected and that the service being offered is totally genuine. They work on behalf of international students to organise normally unpaid Placements within companies and organisations in Armenia. They are constantly expanding their database into newer areas and professions and will do all that they can to arrange an Internship in your desired field or area.

The Programme is designed for people who are interested in putting the theoretical knowledge gained at university to use in another culture - a culture that will probably be very different to your own. As a participant on this program you will gain professional skills as well as an insight into life and culture in Armenia. Your experiences will help you to meet challenges of living, working and travelling in this unique part of the world. You will not only be able to share your knowledge, but also gain a first-hand valuable experience of the Armenian culture that is so far unaffected by mass tourism. During your Internship you will meet many people of your age and make many new friends.

The Cultural Cube Internship in Armenia offers an opportunity for people to develop their professional careers while helping in Armenia. Many applicants are placed in Armenian government agencies, private companies, or other organisations. Internships are available in almost any desired field and will provide participants with the opportunity to really become immersed in the Armenian culture. Participants can also travel throughout Armenia and share in the daily life of the Armenian people.

As you are aware, an Internship is designed to share skills and experiences. The usual duration is between 1 and 3 months, but some are available for 6 months in certain areas.  Once we have received your details, our partner in Armenia will try to seek to identify a suitable Internship that meets with your requirements. One important point to note is that there is no legal requirement that an Internship has to be a paid position. You will be given full details of any stipend or salary that is available before you have to confirm your interest in any placement.

These experiences are available year round to anyone aged 18 to 35 years. The vast majority of our internships are unpaid, however some companies may make a small contribution towards your living expenses, but these payments are usually quite minimal. We cannot guarantee to find a paid Placement and you should not apply if that is the only type you will accept.
