Program description: |
|
|
Volunteers participating on a print journalism project in Bolivia work on the 'Cocha-Banner', a monthly English-language newspaper. This was established by Projects Abroad following on from the success of the 'Brasov Visitor' in Romania and the 'Sivakasi Times' in India.
Working alongside a local journalist, you will be given a range of responsibilities; everything from researching stories and interviewing people to writing articles and editing. You can also design layouts and get involved in various aspects of producing the publication. The newspaper is also contributed to by students from Cochabamba University, so you could get involved with editing, proofreading or even translating articles written by them, if your Spanish is up to it!
Alternatively, you can work on our Radio placement in Cochabamba, and you can get involved in learning about production by assisting with the technical activities taking place in the production booth; researching stories; conducting interviews with local people, and participating in discussion shows.

Some prior knowledge of Spanish is preferable, but not required. Projects Abroad also offers a free 20-hour Spanish course in Bolivia before you start your placement.
