Program description: |
Scientific boat-based surveys of whales, dolphins and other marine life in the waters surrounding the picturesque islands of the Hebrides. Volunteers will assist with our scientific survey in order to better understand species distribution, abundance and identify any cetacean ‘hot spot’ areas. The platform for this survey will be our 53ft fully equipped sailing vessel 'Silurian'. Volunteers will receive full training for all scientific monitoring. Surveys last either 9 or 11 full days.
Land based volunteering opportunities are also available. This comprehensive programme offers volunteers the change to get directly involved with the running of HWDT. Duties include public outreach, running the shop, photo identification analysis and the opportunity to join local boat operators onboard. Minimum age is 18 and minimum duration is 4 weeks.
