|
Volunteers are needed to work on an Animal Rescue Project. You'll help provide day to day care for the animals, repair enclosures, and assist with reintroduction programs. This is a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience with animals, to work with volunteers who deeply care about nature, and to live in the exotic surroundings of the Amazon rainforest or high Andean Mountains.
The Amazonian Center, the Rio Napo Animal Rescue Project, was constructed in 2004. The location is half hour by bus or boat from the town of Coca, on a forested hill overlooking Rio Napo. The areas surrounding the center are lush and filled with wildlife, including jaguars, and such exotic animals as aguti, paca, aguchi and capibara.
This is an ideal situation for volunteers who want to spend a month or more quietly working with animals, specifically providing enrichment and interactive activities--this in a rainforest setting that is not difficult to access.
The Andean center center is about one hour south of Quito in the Avenue of Volcanoes. The center is surrounded by stunning views of Cotopaxi and other volcanoes. The quiet valley is full of fruit orchards and vegetable farms. At any one time, the center houses around 50 animals. Typical animals include Andean spectacled bears, pumas, ocelots, jaguars, giant Galapagos Tortoises, kinkajous, porcupines, coatis, capuchin monkeys, squirrel monkeys, wooly monkeys, boa constrictors, parrots, Andean eagles, hawks, wild ducks, and deer.
