Based in the beautiful rural countryside of Valdegovia, Northern Spain, this volunteer project is the perfect opportunity to gain valuable skills and experience working for a really worthwhile cause, as well as improving your Spanish!
Volunteers can escape the stress of everyday life and enjoy the healing atmosphere of this rural, wooded sanctuary setting. You will play an active role in helping the local community in the maintenance of the nearby mountain paths and cleaning of an old paved Roman road.
The ancient Romans had a well-developed system of roads, but it required careful planning and systematic maintenance. You will work in the National Park of Valdegovia helping with maintenance duties like: building benches and tables or maintaining the grass. The trail along the river will be cleaned and signposts, fences and information signs for walkers will be put up. All of this will be done in one the oldest ways of Saint James that goes back to middle ages.
In the planned activities there are some educational and formative ones: meetings, expositions, training courses, parties, manifestations, events which international volunteers can take part in.
And what better place to do it...? The valley where the workcamp is situated boasts beautiful landscape, castles, windmills and forests. The area is characterized by large broadleaf woods, especially chestnut and beeches, and hosts a great array of fauna, as well as traditional mountain farms and villages. The village in which you will live was founded in 1220. You can often see deer, boars, foxes and badgers.
Also: endless options of leisure activities including walking, watersports... All depending on how active you're feeling but there's something for everyone!
