Global Vision International are looking for experienced Mountain Leaders and scientist to staff a new expedition to the wilderness of Patagonia. Initially setting up a new expedition with the other staff members involving logistics, base, science and community set up. The scientist will be ensuring health and safety of the expedition members and will be responsible for teaching all scientific research skills to the EM groups and ensure that high standards of data are maintained. The Mountain Leader will have overall responsibility for planning and leading group treks including carrying out risk assessment, group management, communications and emergency evacuations. Will also be involved in all aspects of the expedition including training Expedition Members on mountaineering skills and managing groups on scientific projects. All staff will often be in charge of the group and must be capable of operating remote communications and emergency evacuations. Will also be involved in day to day and long term project management as part of a small team.
Global Vision International, was formed in 1998 to provide support and services to international charities, non profits and governmental agencies. Through its international network of 40 personnel in over 20 countries GVI continues to support many of the most critical conservation and humanitarian projects around the globe. This new expedition to Patagonia is GVI's first cold-climate expedition and combines wildlife research with exploratory treks in Patagonia's most remote wilderness areas.

For the scientist role: Good general biological background with experience of managing volunteer programs. Field research experience, with experience of report writing and GIS skills. Species identification and environmental education techniques. Good level of Spanish essential.
For the Mountain Leader role: Winter Mountain Leader (minimum) and First Aid qualifications plus cold weather survival experience and leading remote trecks. Climbing qualifications an advantage. Various construction techniques including basic carpentry would also be beneficial. Conversational Spanish speaker.
All staff are expected to be able to lead groups in remote environments, and having the correct skills and experience to do this is vital. Our staff are expected to be committed to all aspects of our conservation/scientific research and humanitarian expeditions and be able to live closely within the teams for long periods, in remote and trying situations/conditions. GVI is respected in the countries in which it works and you will be expected to act accordingly at all times. Your communication skills must be excellent. You will also be required to contribute to the logistics and be competent working within budgets. These positions are demanding but rewarding.
