As the language of Qu'ran, the Holy book of Islam, Arabic is the most widely spoken language of the Muslim world. Originating in Saudi Arabia in pre-Islamic times, Arabic spread rapidly across the Middle East and is now spoken by some 200 million people in more than 22 countries worldwide, from Morocco to Iraq and as far south as Somalia and the Sudan. The language today has many regional dialects, and modern-day languages of northern India, Turkey, Portugal and Spain are full of words of Arabic origin. Take the time to learn Arabic and you'll be introduced to a vast number of fascinating people and cultures the world over.
