Program description: |

Study Spanish and Surf! Programs for beginners to advanced. Ixtapa-Zihuatannejo is located 200 Km North of Acapulco, on the Pacific Coast. They are in fact two towns very close to each other. Zihuatanejo, is a quaint 'fishing' village. while Ixtapa is a resort town filled with stunning beaches and vibrant action. This is one of the main reasons why the area is so popular - the contrast of being able to be in 'old Mexico' and a few minutes later (they are 4 miles apart) having all the amenities of a modern, beachfront resort town. In fact Zihuatanejo is the dream "getaway" talked about in the movie "The Shawshank Redemption". It is truly an old World Mexican fishing village nestled around a small bay dotted with beautiful protected beaches and no high rises.
Ixtapa has 2 golf courses, a marina, a commercial area, and an 8-km bike track, crossing the jungle and ending in Playa Linda. You can take a boat and cross to the Isla Ixtapa and find snorkelling areas or enjoy a day at the beach tasting a delicious fresh seafood lunch in the restaurants. Ixtapa has a nice variety of international and regional restaurants which offer excellent value and service.
Zihuatanejo best known beaches are La Ropa, La Madera and Las Gatas. Go early in the morning to the market to get fresh fish, vegetables and fruit. Both towns have art crafts markets where you can find ceramic, silver, and all kinds of souvenirs.
Ixtapa-Zihuatannejo has MANY attractions and activities, As well as excellent constant surf - there is wind surfing, kitesurfing, sailing, horse riding, tennis, golf, and kayaking. The area is also world renown for both its scuba diving and big game fishing! There is very good shopping, restaurants, discos live entertainment, and rustic old Mexican bars. Just offshore is Isla Ixtapa and other must see tropical islands. You also need to go to Petatlán, famous for its church and gold shops, visit the La Soledad archaeological site, spend a day in Barra de Potosi (wildlife reserve) and enjoy the delicious seafood. Explore Michoacán, north of the State of Guerrero, and discover colonial Mexico, i.e.,Uruapan, Pátzcuaro and Morelia.

Benefits and advantages of the program: |
 |

The Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo area offers some of the best surf on Mexico’s Pacific Coast. We highly recommend it for beginner and intermediate surfers. It has regular, consistent surf with a huge variety of breaks from beginner to expert. Breaks like Escolleras, Playa Linda, La Saladita, the Ranch, Mahajua, Troncones, Playa Manzanillo, Juluchuca, La Barrita and Las Gatas, all within one-hours drive. Escolleras is right in the heart of Ixtapa, on the main beach - so no travelling is needed! The most popular break is Playa Linda. It is just a short 10 minutes bus ride (YES – the buses do take boards!) away and is the perfect idyllic beach break on a palm fringed beach, that is picture card perfect. And … Don't bother with a wetsuit, you won't need it here!
For those wanting more variety there is also Playa Las Gatas and Playa Madera in Zihuatanejo, 30 minutes north is Troncones is a 3+ mile long beach with powerful beach and point breaks, followed La Saladita, reputed to be the best longboard wave in Mexico if not the Americas!
Ixtapa - Zihuatanejo is a year round surf destination. The best surf is from May to October but even November through March still see ride-able surf most days. The really nice thing about this area is that MANY of the breaks have almost no crowds - a true positive for such a classy area of surf. Although we market this area as excellent for beginners and intermediate surfers – with easily accessible rivermouth, point, beach and reef breaks there is really something for every surfer, from beginner to professional
