Since 1993 INTESOL International has trained thousands of people to teach English as a foreign language. We offer affordable, accredited online/distance TEFL courses that can be studied anywhere in the world. Our courses are ideal for those seeking to teach English worldwide, whatever their nationality or background.
The Cert (ES) TESOL is accredited by the College of Teachers (established 1846), the chartered body for the teaching profession in the UK, onsite at the University of London. When choosing a course it is essential you choose one that is externally validated in order to ensure quality and recognition. For your information the four main validating bodies (as recognised by the British Council) are the College of Teachers, Trinity College, Cambridge/RSA or any UK university. It is advisable to make sure the course you choose is accredited by one of these.
The Cert (ES) TESOL contains approximately 120 - 150 hours of work which can be started and completed in your own time, maximising flexibility. The course is run by continual assessment. There are 10 modules and at the end of each module there will be a set of tasks for you to complete and return to your personal tutor. Within 1 week (or sooner) your tutor will return your work with a grade and any feedback and guidance for future modules. When you have completed all 10 modules we will take your average grade and that will be the award for your certificate. To give you an idea on timescales, if you dedicate 10 hours per week you can finish the course in 3 months. This is the average time of completion for those who are working a full time job whilst they are studying. If you are able to dedicate 30 hours to study per week it is possible to complete the course in 1 month. There are no fixed completion dates so if you need longer then this is also OK.
When you have completed the Cert (ES) TESOL by open/distance learning you have the option to attend one of our training centres in the UK for one week of observed, assessed teaching practice. This course is a great opportunity to gain confidence in the classroom and apply what you have learned during your Cert (ES) TESOL. For the duration of the teaching practice course you will be assigned a mentor, whose lessons you will join. For 8 hours per day, Monday to Friday you will spend time observing your mentor teaching, preparing lessons and taking activities and lessons yourself. You will gain experience teaching a variety of levels, from beginners to advanced. You will also experience teaching both groups and on a one-to-one basis. By the end of the week you will have completed at least 6 hours of observed and assessed teaching practice on real language students from a variety of locations throughout Europe, the Middle East and the Far East. You will gain a graded Teaching Practice Certificate and report on your performance to show to future employers.
