The School of the World is a traveler's education school located on the Pacific coast of Costa Rica, in the town of Playa Jaco. Costa Rica's beautiful countryside, friendly native Spanish speaking people, and stunning beaches form the perfect backdrop for studying Spanish, surfing, art, and digital photography.
Study Spanish in Costa Rica:
Founded in 1997, the School of the World began as one of the first options for studying Spanish near the beach in Costa Rica (most of the language schools are located in or around the capital city which is in the center of the country). College credit soon became available for the unique program and the school continued to grow rapidly. The school's Spanish courses incorporate international Spanish teaching guidelines with Costa Rica's local variations of the language. While the program covers all aspects of Spanish, teachers place a heavy influence on developing verbal skills. Studying in a Spanish speaking country allows students to immediately practice what they have learned with native Spanish-speaking people.
Surfing in Costa Rica:
Surfboards are more common than cell phones in this small town, so it was only a matter of time before we began to teach surfing to our students. The surf program was born approximately one year after the school was established. Due to the fact that the Playa Jaco area is well known to have great waves and warm water year-round, it is only natural that so many people come here to learn how to surf. Catering to both first-time and advanced surfers the School of the World quickly became one of the premier surf schools in Costa Rica.
Study Art and Photography in Costa Rica:
Combining the aspects of a Spanish language school and a surf camp was only the beginning. After the success of the Spanish and Surfing programs a new department was created for Art and Digital Photography. The lush tropical surroundings of Costa Rica form the perfect classroom for expanding your art and photography skills. The digital photography revolution has made it easier for people to experiment and learn how to improve their photography skills, without the cost or waiting time of film.
New Learning Vacations in Costa Rica:
More inventive study abroad options are on the horizon as well. There is currently a new addition to the school being built that will include upgraded lodging options, art gallery and studio, student café, and a stage. Once the new building is complete several new options will likely be added. Future program possibilities have included tropical cooking classes, yoga, Latin dance, painting, sailing, and/or music courses.
