Program description: |
 |
|
The fall semester is spent traveling with a group of up to 12 other LEAPYear students to either Central America, South America or Asia. During this semester participants engage in intensive language training, cultural awareness classes, community service, and they usually take on a skill such as reiki, yoga, or begin instruction in a musical instrument. A hike or backpacking adventure is usually incorporated into the semester's portion.
The winter break consists of one month of time at home. Usually home time is spent decompressing from the students' foreign travels.
The spring semester consists of an individual internship. This internship is chosen by the student to meet their needs and desires for educational experience. The students select from LEAPNow's database of over 20,000 different international volunteer opportunities and embark on a three-month independent adventure. Students are counseled throughout the decision process to ensure a good placement.
The program also includes 8 weeks of retreat time that is spread throughout the year. These weeks are dedicated to self-exploration primarily, and take the form of a variety of different arts, activities, classes, and challenges. Previous students have listed this time as a highlight for their LEAPYear.
