|
Buenos Aires is a 24-hour city - lively, frenetic, with lots to see and do. Volunteer teachers are needed in children's homes, primary and secondary schools and social assistance centres.
We work with children and adults from three different backgrounds and levels of need in Buenos Aires and you don't need any formal qualifications. The schools we work with are a mix of poor and wealthy children and you may teach at more than one school during your stay. Don't worry if you can't speak Spanish, although it is obviously an advantage, as most of the children have some knowledge of English.
We also give you the option of teaching at a childrens home, a home for single mothers or with adults in Social assistance Centres. In order to work with these groups you will need some basic knowledge of Spanish.
If you have a reasonable grasp of the Spanish language, you may have the option of working with children whose parents either have HIV or have died from it. These children need love, attention and playtime as much as they need your teaching skills.
We also provide teaching to adults and young doctors who need to learn English as part of their job but can't afford to pay for lessons.
Teaching will usually be spread over 10-15 hours per week, with some teaching taking place in the early evenings. School holidays are approximately 15th-26th of July and 13th December to early march, however, some teaching is available during these periods in the childrens homes and to adults.
Argentina is a vast country with a dramatically varied landscape, from the subtropical north to the sub-Antarctic south. BUENOS AIRES, where you'll live while taking your Spanish course, is a vibrant city with a European Flavour. Many neighbourhoods have their own unique flair, such as the brightly painted houses of La Boca or beautiful Belgrano.
