|
Tempted to teach English in Asia? If you are dreaming of teaching abroad then how does a school nearby a beautiful Thai beach sound? You could be marking books and making lesson plans whilst admiring the scenery as the sun shines down. In government-run primary schools teachers are needed to teach English to children who may rely on this skill for their future employment. You may also get involved in sports, arts and crafts or other extra-curricular activities.
Please note that the schools close for regular teaching during the months of March to April and September to October and some of the arrivals dates overlap with this. In this situation volunteers will be teaching on a 'summer school' basis where teaching will be less formal and classes will be for up to 3 hours in the mornings. Volunteers teaching English in Thailand may also like to get involved in sports clubs and after-school activities in the afternoons.
You will be teaching in one of several kindergarten and state primary schools in coastal areas throughout Thailand. These are government-run schools with between 150 and 300 students and 8 to 16 teachers. The average class size is approximately 20 students per class and the majority of children are from poor families.
