|
Based in the extraordinary capital of this intriguing country you’ll be working with an award-winning voluntary organisation that caters for the needs of children with disabilities and empowers them to face the future with dignity and pride. Classes include both mainstream and disabled children and, despite its limited funding, the organisation has had great success. While your main role will be in education, you’re more than welcome to step out of the classroom and channel your energies into sports coaching, vocational activities or administrative work.
Akshay Pratishthan School for Integrated Education was established in 1988, and is registered as a Voluntary Organisation that caters for the needs of its students, some of whom are disabled. The school currently has over 400 pupils. Its mission is to create an inclusive, barrier free and rights based society where persons with disabilities will be treated with dignity in the spirit of equality and social justice.
The centre offers comprehensive teaching and rehabilitation services with the aim of empowering young people. It aims to provide education, medical care and vocational training as well as support in areas including community-based rehabilitation, social counseling and child guidance.
The vocational training at the centre includes instruction in bakery, beauty, carpentry, IT, electrics, tailoring, physiotherapy, yoga and prosthetics.
