As well as the key objective of English tuition, you can also get involved in a wide range of exciting extra-curricular activities such as cultural projects, games, dance, music, painting, sports, and computer tuition. As with every teaching project, to help you prepare you get i-to-i TEFL training included before you depart. This gives you the confidence to face your first group and practical skills to use throughout your work placement. One of the organisations is belong to a free and organized movement named: CONGRESCO. It works with the Mangueira community (favela), famous for their Samba school that is the most traditional in Brazil. The other is responsible for many different projects that try to offer, mainly through culture and sports, new perspectives to the inhabitants of Rocinha, a community that has always been used to prejudices. Through specific English tuition, it is hoped extra hope can be given to the local people. Placement details: Casa de Cultura da Rochina – Over the last couple of years, this project has provided approx 20 free courses to over 600 students from the community, ranging from graffiti and photography to sports, theatre and languages. Through these courses, the group hopes to offer the local people a new perspective on life.
