|
In schools in the South-West of the country, the increasing popularity of Sri Lanka as a tourist destination makes English a priority. Teaching English is a good way to help out here. We work in schools outside Colombo, from schools in villages amongst paddy fields to schools in the mountains for the children of tea planters. Some of the schools are close to the beach others are based in temples!
Students are generally aged 10 to 14 years old. They will often be able to speak some English but your focus will be to develop their confidence and fluency. If a student is able to understand and speak confidently to their English teacher it is a real step forward, and your presence also increases the teachers' language abilities.
If you have any other skills please let us know. If you are able to play the guitar or train the school football team you will be a welcome asset to the school. The range of skills required is wide and varied and the schools will always take advantage of what you can offer them - you may find yourself setting up the origami club for a group of fascinated students or helping older students with their maths studies. The more we know about you the more we are able to tell our colleagues in Sri Lanka, to ensure that you have the perfect placement for you.
