Program description: |
|
|
This placement is a great balance of learning yourself and facilitating the learning of others. Spending time at workshops run by local artists allows for a deep cultural understanding by learning techniques in wood carving, pottery and batik printing, amongst others.
Running art clubs with school children will see you pass on your own creative flair to give budding artists the chance to develop their own skills and forms of expression.
Art plays a massive part in South African culture. The landscape and people of this stunning nation have become a backdrop for thousands of artists. However, because the core academic subjects (English, maths and science) take priority in schools, many children are deprived of exploring and developing their creative talents.
You will also be able to get involved in Care Work at an orphanage based next to our accomodation and you will enjoy getting involved with our Volunteer sports teams where you may even have the opportunity to play against local teams in South Africa!
