|
SMILE (Situational Management and Inter-Learning Establishment) is an NGO based in Calcutta, West Bengal, India and depends on bright, energetic volunteers to participate in its various programs involving under-privileged children. A full member of UNESCO, SMILE welcomes volunteers of all nationalities on a short or long-term basis (2-24 weeks).
Volunteers are required to pay a nominal living cost Euro 100/week (2-3 weeks) for their stay and this cost is just to cover accommodation, food (3 hearty meals a day!) .Volunteer interested to stay as long term volunteer need to pay Euro 80/week (minimum 4 weeks and above term).
The Smile Society:
Our organisation is called Situational Management & Inter-learning Establishment Society which we call Smile Society. We are India based and we are a government registered NGO. Since 2003 we have worked in the field of Volunteering and welfare activities for the underprivileged children of India. The following program durations are available to our volunteers in 2008:
1. Long term Volunteer Programs [9-24 weeks]
2. Medium term Volunteer Programs [5-8 weeks]
3. Short term Volunteer programs [2-4 weeks ]
This is a Program especially for International Volunteers aged 16-80 yrs. from around the world who wish to work as volunteers with these children in our projects such as Happy Home, Street Children Welfare or Kids Land Project. Volunteers can apply for one of these positions yea round.
4. Work Camp Programs [2 weeks],Cost:Euro 200
Apart from our Permanent Projects listed above, we have many other temporary projects located in different places throughout India working with underprivileged children.
5. Internship Programs [2-12 weeks for the International Students from 16-30 yrs].
This is a Program specially designed for International Students who wish to volunteer during their holidays and also seek knowledge and international experience. Volunteers have a chance to learn about many aspects of India by participating in our Internship Programs. Our volunteers can choose to work in any of the following sectors:
a. Teaching English
b. Health problem among street /slum kids
c. Indian culture & tradition
d. Education system
e. Women’s issues [Specially Girls]
f. Rural development sector
g. Language learning
h. Yoga
During this program volunteers will stay with a host family / as a group /individually and prepare a report on their work. Our volunteers will receive a special tutorial with an expert(s) in their field twice per week, as arranged by the organisation. Inter Volunteers will get constant support from the local staff, to diminish barriers in relating to the local people due to language barriers.
6. Summer Mini Tour with Volunteering Program [2 weeks]
This is a tour program for the Volunteers who wish to explore India at the same time as volunteering with the street children. During their work on this program they can give these poor and underprivileged children English Conversation training, Sanitation and Hygienic related education, playing & entertainment programs like drawing, music and dancing. During this program our volunteers can experience three aspects of India’s natural beauty- Mountain, Forest, and Ocean in West Bengal.
7. Summer Express Tour with Volunteering Program [ 3-4 weeks]
This is a tour program for international volunteers who wish to explore India at the same time as volunteering with the street children. During their work in this program volunteers can give these poor and underprivileged children English Conversation training, Sanitation and Hygienic related education, playing & entertainment programs like drawing, music and dancing.
