Learn to kitesurf or develop your passion for this exciting water sport in the country that has hosted the last four Kiteboarding World Cups. The Dominican Republic is a haven for kitesurfing thanks to the consistent Trade Winds which blow across the island every afternoon and you will soon fall in love with its relaxed atmosphere and friendly people.
The kitesurfing course is based in Cabarete, a beautiful beach town on the northern coast of the Dominican Republic. The area has a designated kite beach which makes it the perfect destination to enjoy a new sport, safe in the knowledge that you are less likely to crash into any unsuspecting sunbathers or swimmers! You will live in a beach lodge alongside other kitesurfers and surfers from all over the world who have come to enjoy Cabarete’s unrivalled water sport reputation and social scene.
Whether you are a beginner or an improver, this course will take you through the IKO (International Kiteboarding Organisation) Levels as you learn a whole new array of skills, from control of the kite on land, to tricks and jumping in the water. Levels 1 to 3 will be awarded, once you have reached the necessary standard, by professional instructors who love teaching others their favourite sport. Instruction will take place in small groups and you will be able to develop in the sport at your own pace, all against the tropical backdrop of Cabarete in the Dominican Republic – the kiteboarding capital of the world!
As a beginner, you will typically experience your first ride at the end of the first week, having learnt how to set up your kiteboarding equipment and the basics of launching and landing. In week two your technique will be improved to allow upwind riding enabling you to gain sufficient confidence to ride independently. Subsequent weeks will be spent in/on the water and you will have more time to develop strengths and weaknesses.
As an intermediate kitesurfer you will receive an assessment on arrival to determine your current kitesurfing ability. You will then receive personal tuition to hone your existing technique and strengthen your understanding of the sport.
