This is the ultimate surfing course, demanding a lot from participants and designed to produce skilled men and women who are capable of working in the global surfing industry!
The surf instructor training course is based in Manly, the first of Sydney’s ‘Northern Beaches,’ at the Manly Life Saving Club – one of the oldest and most prestigious Life Saving Clubs in the country. Manly is home to a considerable number of dedicated surfers and lifeguards which makes it an excellent place to train and socialise! The beach is a short walk from the accommodation and Manly is a short ferry ride away from Sydney, giving you even more opportunities to explore your surroundings.
The course is designed to take your ocean awareness to a whole new level and in order to achieve this you will spend most of your time in or near the water. It is through a major wipe out or the pull of a rip that you will learn more about the ways of the ocean than if someone simply tells you what to expect. You will undergo an initial assessment of your strengths and weaknesses so that your instructors can set you clear performance objectives and you know what areas you need to work on. These will be reviewed throughout the course to identify and encourage your development. After improving your own surfing technique you will develop your communication and teaching skills as you progress towards becoming a surfing instructor.
First Aid qualifications are also included and form an important part of your instructor training. On successful completion of the course you will receive a Senior First Aid Certificate and a Resuscitation (inc defibrillator) and Oxygen Equipment Certificate to add to your instructor qualification, all of which are internationally recognised and will allow you to work all over the world.
