Poseidon Diving Station is a PADI Five Star dive centre with 30 years experience in diving. We offer all courses up to assistant instructor and have English, German and local instructors with teaching materials in most major languages. We now offer enriched air courses and diving.
We have three boats doing up to three dives a day each to some of our many beautiful and varied dive sites, which include 17 shipwrecks, cave, reef and rock formations. With six local PADI divemasters guiding all dives you will be looked after and have a chance to learn about each site and the colourful and amazing Indian Ocean marine creatures.
The centre is situated in Hikkaduwa, a marine sanctuary with a safe, shallow home reef for snorkelling and beginning to dive. In our beach restaurant you can enjoy the after-dive experience before retiring to your rooms just a couple of metres away.
Poseidon Diving Station was started in 1973 by the combined efforts of S.K. Nandasena (Leslie) Sven Holmberg and Bertl Magnusson.
Sven and Bertl arrived as tourists in Sri Lanka looking for somewhere to dive. There were no diving centres but Leslie was recommended as an outstanding skin diver to guide them to the best sites.
They were so impressed that they invited Leslie to Sweden to train in SCUBA and later joined together to form Poseidon, the first dive shop in Hikkaduwa.
The business grew as more customers returned year after year for the friendly atmosphere and professional diving. Leslie went on to discover the Conch, Arcturus, Earl of Shaftesbury, Alliance, Orestes and Rangoon wrecks.
In 1998 the centre was registered as a PADI Dive Centre (S-19272) with Chami Sembakuttige as its principal instructor and has since grown but maintained the same friendly and professional reputation.
In 2004 we were recognised by PADI for our achievements, high standards and contribution to community and environment, and became the first PADI Five Star Centre in Sri Lanka.
Why Dive with us?
Hikkaduwa offers a stunning home reef with beautiful fishes and turtles for diving and snorkelling. An easy boat ride away we have plentiful wrecks, reefs and rock formations where it is possible to see large marine life including dolphins, whalesharks and mantaray. Our dives in the Indian ocean have visibility up to 25m in safe, warm water.
Poseidon Diving Station has ten rooms (9 double, 1 triple). Each room has twin beds, fan, mosquito net and bathroom.
Rooms can be booked in advance for divers or non-diving tourists (divers will get a discount).
We also have a restaurant & bar serving breakfast, lunch, dinner and hot snacks all day. We specialise in sea food and true Sri Lankan curries at lunch time.
For customers who prefer, we can arrange accommodation in any of the nearby guest houses or hotels, with daily collection free of charge.
It is also possible to arrange collection from Colombo airport for groups up to five per minivan or larger group by air conditioned bus.
