Volunteers teach a variety of subjects at both primary and secondary schools. Straddling the equator, the coutnry itself is incredibly lush and green. Topograpy varies from semi-desert in the north east to beautiful terraced hillsides in the south west, fertiles shores around lake victoria and the Ruwenzori mountains. Volunteers need to be both paitent and enthusiastic and prepared to adapt to basic living conditions and teaching situations where reasources are limited. Volunteers return from their year having developed a real warmth for hte people they have lived and worked with. Benefits and advantages of the program: All our volunteers attend a selection course, a training course and on return after 12 months overseas a debriefing course. We are a small charity based in the Hebridees and send on average 200 volunteers to around 25 different countries overseas every year. for the past 36 years we have sent over 4,000 volunteers overseas to over 50 different countries. As one of the oldest and most expereinced charities in this filed we have built up a fantastic support network in both the UK and throughout the world. Cost or price of this program: The programme costs £3,950 and we expect our volunteers to fundraise this money during the year before they go overseas. Typical person for this program: Volunteers are people who want to have an exciting and challenging year out before entering university. They have a a desire to help others and a wish to see a country through the eyes of its people. Qualifications required: Volunteers should be studying for the qualifications to enter university. Application process Involves: Applications for August 2005 need to be received by early February 2005 at the very latest. All applicants must attend a 5 day selection course of the Hebridean Isle of Coll. This enables Project Trust to place volunteers in projects suitable for them and also enables potential volunteers to chose the placement that most fulfills their aims for their gap year.
