Program description:

ARCAS is a non-profit Guatemalan NGO formed in 1989 by a group of Guatemalan citizens who became concerned as they saw their precious natural heritage - especially their wildlife - rapidly disappearing before their eyes. It was originally created for a very specific and urgent purpose: to build a rescue center to care for and rehabilitate wild animals that were being confiscated on the black market by the Guatemalan Government.having started with the ARCAS Rescue Centre, work has since expanded to environmental education, information/ dissemination, marine turtle conservation and reforestation

Volunteers are required in Hawaii (Guatemala) to aid: sea turtle conservation, construction of turtle hatcheries, environmental education programme, mangrove reforestation project, community projects and more.

Cost or price of this program:

Minimum stay in Hawaii is one week. Volunteers are asked to pay $50/ week to cover lodging and other expenses. Volunteers are responsible for their own food. They can either prepare it for themselves in the kitchen or eat with local families at roughly Q10 ($1.30) per meal
