|
Women's issues have long plagued India, which is ironic given that Indira Gandhi was one of the world's first democratically elected woman leaders. Lend a hand at one of India's most dynamic empowerment projects, working to help better the condition of women. The programs are located in Chennai (formerly Madras), a culturally rich city at once modern and steeped in tradition. You may choose to be involved with any of their many programs:
1) Family counseling center and shelter
2) Women's development
3) STD/HIV/AIDS Prevention and control among slum dwellers
4) STD/HIV/AIDS Prevention among women in prostitution
5) Prevention of traffiking in women and children (relief and rehabilitation)
This program is flexible! Volunteers determine start and end dates.
