Program description: |
|
|
Gain physiotherapy experience while helping at the Hospital for the Rehabilitation of Disabled Children (HRDC) in the Kathmandu Valley. Children with disfigured limbs (often from birth defects such as polio) come to have corrective surgery here, staying for months at a time to recover from their operation. They have physiotherapy, often have prosthetic limbs fitted & learn how to use them. Gap year volunteers shadow a doctor or physiotherapist & see how they work. You will be able to gain a lot of hands-on experience. With 150 beds there are a lot of children who would love to be entertained so you would also help as a carer - playing with, entertaining & helping the children with their physiotherapy exercises. Whether you are pre-university or post-university there will be a lot for you to do. We tailor all placements to meet the needs, experience and interests of each volunteer.
