Program description: |
|
|
Most English teachers in Cambodia are locals who have learned English from other Cambodians. Volunteers with this project will give advanced English classes and share information with the teachers in the areas of curriculum development, teaching methods, and resources. This project is an incredible opportunity to help to develop the skills of the teachers who will pass on the benefits to their students. Volunteers with this project will help to create long lasting and far reaching benefits for many Cambodians.

|
Cambodia is one of Asia's most mysterious countries. Visitors can see evidence of the soaring accomplishments of ancient civilizations alongside the darkest depths of human cruelty. Most Cambodians consider themselves to be Khmer, descended from the great civilization which reached its peak from the 10th to the 13th centuries and built the famous Angkor Wat Temple, one of the world's most famous Architectural marvels. Volunteers stay with local host families and are warmly welcomed to participate in the day to day life of their family and the children at the centers. Volunteers will work Monday through Friday, leaving weekends free to explore Cambodia's wonders including the legendary Angkor Wat, Sambor, and pristine beaches.

There is no typical ELI volunteer. We work with people from all over the world and a variety of backgrounds. ELI has placed volunteers ranging in age from 18-81. Successful volunteers are flexible, upbeat, energetic, and inquisitive.
