Children who have been abandoned by their families or are in other at-risk situations are placed in the protective custody of the orphanages and shelters where thery are cared for until they are adopted or placed with family members that can take better care of them. In other cases, children from low income families are placed in home/day care centers during the day while their parents are working and in the afternoon the children are picked up. All of these centres provide housing, food, and care for boys and girls from babies ( 3 months old) to 15 years old. As a volunteer, you will become directly involved in the daily lives of these children. Therefore, you will provide general day-care of the children.
