Program description: |

|
This program is located in one of the most picturesque cities in the world. You will be joining one of our small teams of volunteers working to preserve, monitor, and re-establish our natural environment here in the Wellington region and beyond. Prepare yourself to encounter the challenges of environmental restoration in our native forests, along our wild coastline, and on our coastal islands.
Volunteers will form an integral part of our wildlife monitoring and research projects. Our program area extends from Wellington's south coast through to Northland. There are two separate teams on the program; both are headquartered in Wellington, but may also participate in programs further afield. Your time on the New Zealand Nature Program will be spent:
- replanting native bush on several harbour islands (winter)
- removing invasive pest plants
- participating in bird and seal surveys
- taking part in predator control
- monitoring dolphins in Wellington harbour
- exploring coastal inlets on sea kayaks
- dune restoration

Qualifications required: |
|
|
As a volunteer on the New Zealand Nature Project you must be 18 years old or over, have no major health problems, be a competent swimmer, be moderately fit, be proficient in English, possess initiative and an enthusiasm for the environment, and be willing to work, rain or shine.
