Around 300,000 women have migrated to Phnom Penh from the provinces to work in garment factories. Many of these women are uneducated and face an uncertain future. Volunteers will work with the garment workers to teach them the life skills they need to face the challenges of day to day life. Volunteers will teach health education, hygiene practices, arithmetic, basic English conversation, and other skills. Visitors can see evidence of the soaring accomplishments of ancient civilizations alongside the darkest depths of human cruelty. Most Cambodians consider themselves to be Khmer, descended from the great civilization which reached its peak from the 10th to the 13th centuries and built the famous Angkor Wat Temple, one of the world's most famous Architectural marvels. Volunteers stay with local host families and are warmly welcomed to participate in the day to day life of their family and the children at the centers. Volunteers will work Monday through Friday, leaving weekends free to explore Cambodia's wonders including the legendary Angkor Wat, Sambor, and pristine beaches.
