|
Make a real difference to the lives of some of Ecuador's needy people. Volunteers have the opportunity to teach in Ecuador and contribute to the development of the minds and futures of the Ecuadorian people. Living and volunteering in Ecuador, volunteers could help enrich the lives of Ecuadorian students by sharing. Volunteers don't have to be a teacher to take part in and enjoy our teaching placements. Open to all volunteers, volunteers really benefit the students they work with, while gaining valuable skills themselves. Placements are available in rural or urban elementary and secondary school. Volunteers will help in this process by teaching a class for some hours each day from Monday to Friday.
This program allows volunteers to experience the wonder of this country while making a positive contribution to its development. Volunteers will have the opportunity to learn about Ecuador's history, culture, traditions, nature and to learn Spanish while working in our teaching program.
Description of the work
Volunteers will support local teachers at a primary or secondary school with planning lessons, preparing notes, organizing materials and extracurricular activities, evaluate daily activities of students and developing a teaching method. During lessons, volunteers will often work with an Ecuadorian teacher, but they will also sometimes have a class all to themselves. Besides, volunteer teacher will have the opportunity to help students with their daily homework and to do periodic home visitation to the homes of some students. Volunteers will teach, English, math, arts/crafts workshops, organized sports (in the school clubs) among others.
PROGRAM DETAILS
Location of Placement: Quito, Otavalo, Latacunga, Cuenca, Galapagos, Puerto Lopez, Bahía de Caraquez, Guayaquil, Salinas, Mindo, etc.
Minimum and maximum commitment: 2 weeks to 24 weeks
Minimum Spanish level: High-beginning
Experience: Related previous experience would be helpful but not mandatory
Program dates: All year-round
Deadline: At least 2 weeks before start date
Admission Requirements: Application form, resume and letter of intent
Work Schedule: Full time or part time
Age: 18 or more years of age
Housing and Board: Homestay with an Ecuadorian family (a single room + 3 daily meals)
