Program description:

For nearly a decade, African Conservation Experience has arranged for people to join conservation initiatives on Game and Nature Reserves in southern Africa. By working on projects such as studying Leopards and Elephants or carrying out Wildlife Rehabilitation work, you will make a real difference to some of the world’s most vibrant but vulnerable wildlife and environments. Gain a deeper understanding of African ecology, meet like-minded people and develop fresh skills – all while making a valuable contribution to conservation and getting up close to a huge diversity of African wildlife.

Supporting Conservation - We make sure that our projects are of real conservation value and make a positive, worthwhile contribution to the wildlife and ecosystems of southern Africa. All our staff, including our UK office staff, are trained Zoologists or Conservationists and so are well placed to assess the work we are doing. Our excellent reputation means that we often get approached to support new projects - we try to get involved in conservation programmes that we know would not be able to run financially without us, thereby maximising the impact our resources have.

Supporting You - We place great importance on getting to know you as a volunteer and on providing you with a strong support structure throughout your placement. Trained and qualified co-ordinators on each project are there not only to guide the work that is done, but also to make sure that you operate safely in the bush environment and to be there to deal with any problems that may arise, however big or small!

MAKE A DIFFERENCE

We believe that sustainable conservation initiatives need long-term support that pays for more than just the basics. This is why up to 60% of your placement fee goes directly to the projects to pay not only for your food and accommodation but also for vehicles, good staff wages, camp maintenance and equipment – the continued existence of the project! Everyone involved with African Conservation Experience – Founders, UK Staff, African Support Staff and all the Co-ordinators (and you as a Volunteer) – work towards the same goal: to conserve wildlife and ecosystems in southern Africa.
