Program description: |
|
|
This project is a particularly rural project in the middle of the African bush, with the nearest town being 5 hours drive away. The volunteers live in a tent although permanent accommodation is being constructed at present. The work is at Bana ba Metsi School. The volunteers are helping to build the school and teach the students vocational skills. The school targets young people who have been expelled or dropped out of regular classes due to behavioural problems. The boys are taught a range of skills including: bricklaying, carpentry, building, plumbing, mechanics and cooking.

Benefits and advantages of the program: |

|
All volunteers go to the Isle of Coll for a selection course, a training course and on return from their year away a debriefing course. We currently send on average 210 volunteers abroad a year, this makes us a small charity but enables us to get to know each of our volutneers individually. We have sent over 4,000 volunteers over the last 36 years to over 50 countries worldwide, with that experience and our support network both at home and abroad we are prepared for any eventuality.

The programme costs £3, 950 which we expect our volunteers to fund raise in the year before they go overseas.
