The expedition base is located in the Cap Ternay Marine National Park, on the main island of Mahe. You will spend your time scuba diving around the coral reef, collecting research data on coral and fish species, helping with whale shark migration surveys, turtle nesting research and octopus and lobster surveys. This is a rare opportunity to be a part of internationally respected research projects, while immersing yourself in the exciting world of marine biology and living in breathtaking surroundings. *How this program makes a difference* GVI and their partner organizations are the leading marine data collection organization in the country. They collect data on the coral reefs as well as on turtles, whale sharks, dolphins, octopuses and several other species. The data gather is used to show an accurate picture of the overall health of the Seychelles coral reefs and is used by the government for management policies. Cost or price of this program: From £1685 / $3370 for 5 weeks Typical person for this program: There is no typical volunteer! All expedition members must be enthusiastic, interested in conservation and prepared to work in a team. Qualifications required: Expedition members will need to be qualified to at least PADI Open Water or equivalent to start the expedition. However For non-divers we are offering a beginners package, incorporating the PADI Openwater certification, which is the minimum level if dive training needed to start the Seychelles Expedition.GVI’s comprehensive training programme will provide you with all the skills necessary for expedition life, such as marine survey techniques.  You must be able to pass a medical examination to prove you are physically fit to dive. All expedition members will have to complete a swim test on arrival at the expedition base. Everyone must have a strong interest in wildlife and conservation.  Participants must also be very enthusiastic, adventurous, have a good sense of humour and be respectful of the host country`s environment and cultures.
