|
Established in 1970, the Outward Bound Trust of Hong Kong exists to develop the traniees' personal skills through physical outdoor tasks. It organises courses for a wide variety of people, from juvenile delinquents and the socially disadvantaged to businessmen and the handicapped. The work is split into three groups; land based courses organising orentiering, climbing, and the assult course, sea-based activites include small boats sailing, kayaking and possibly raft and dragon racing, finally working on the water front mending boats and other equipment. Typically volunteers start their year as assistants to one of the senior instructors and move on to assume more responsibily when they have proved their worth.

Benefits and advantages of the program: |

All our volunteers visit the Isle of Coll for a selection course, a training course and on return to the country after 12 months away, a debriefing course. Project Trust is a small charity which sends roughly 200 volunteers overseas to around 25 different countries each year, this means we get to know our volunteers individually. Over the last 36 years we have sent around 4,000 volunteers overseas, as one of the oldest organisations in this feild we have a wealth of experience. Along with this we have a good support network in the UK and throughout the world.

To volunteer with Project Trust costs £3,950 which we expect our volunteers to fundraise in the year before they go overseas.

Typical person for this program: |
|
|
A person who loves sport especially water sport. A third of the time will be spent at sea so an ability to swim and a resistance to sea-sickness is very important.
|
|

Qualifications required: |
|
|
Volunteers must have just left school and be between 17 - 19 years old.
