Program description:

One project is based on the island of Roatan, the largest island in the Bay Islands. Here two volunteers teach in a primary school, this is a unique community which has maintained its culture and language for the last two centuries. Two volunteers will live in Puerto Cortes here they teach English, Mathematics, Arts, Crafts and extra-curricular activities to primary and pre primary children. There is also a project in Siguatepeque where voluteers will teach primary children English with arts and crafts included in their timetable.

What are the dates of this program: Volunteers will leave for Honduras in late August or early September and will return to the UK after twelve months around 25th August.

Benefits and advantages of the program:

All volunteers will attend a selection course, a training course and on return to the UK after their twelve months overseas, a debriefing course. We are a small charity and send roughly 200 volunteers to around 25 countries each year, this means we get to know each of our volunteers individually. In the last 36 years we have sent over 4,000 volunteers overseas, as one of the oldest gap year charites we have a wealth of experience to draw from. We have a huge backup support network in both the UK and throughout the world.

Cost or price of this program:

The programme costs £3,950 and we expect our volunteers to fundraise this during the year before they go overseas

Typical person for this program:

Resourcful, enthusiastic, dedicated volunteers with a desire to learn Spanish and integrate into the community. An interest in Caribbean life a desire to see that culture and way of life through the eyes of those who live there.

Qualifications required:

Volunteers must have jsut left school and be between the ages of 17 to 19.
