Program description: |
Depending on interests and local needs, volunteers are placed in work settings where they can make a meaningful contribution to the improvement of local social services. Placements include primary schools, aanganbari (day care centers), and other similar community-oriented projects and services. Volunteer placements are determined after arrival in India, and are designed to involve about 20-25 hours of work per week, with one hour of mandatory community work per week. Volunteers in India also benefit from special workshops on Indian culture such as yoga and cooking, and planned excursions to local sites of interest. Plenty of free time will also exist for reading, relaxing and exploring the local surroundings. Volunteers are aided by local assistants who serve as guides, translators, and overall support staff.
Volunteers are accommodated in a specially designed rural camp featuring rustic but modern huts equipped with air coolers and private toilets. Meals are served in a comfortable dining hall. During free time, volunteers have access to a video room, Internet facilities, and sports equipment.
