Volunteers have the chance to help care for children in orphanages, and teach English in universities and language centres in Da Nang (Danang), a beautiful coastal city in central Vietnam. This program will give you a chance to make an important contribution to the people of Vietnam, and to gain an in depth experience of the country and its culture that will stay with you the rest of your life. The volunteer opportunities are in the following areas: Street Children Volunteers work with an organisation that looks after a thousand street children, aged from 6 to 18, in Da Nang. Volunteers can help provide education, health care, and vocational training for the children at special education centres or on the street. The centre takes care of children who are infected with HIV, and provides HIV education to all of the children. The vocational training equips the older children with career skills to re-enter society, and helps younger children to gain a better start in life. In addition to these programs, volunteers may also help to run English classes for the children and the centres' staff in the evening. Assisting in Orphanages Volunteers stay at an orphange with fifty children, on the outskirts of the city, only one kilometre from the sea. Volunteers can help these children to gain a better start in life, teaching them English and arts and crafts, as well as helping the older children with vocational training. Volunteers may also help with organising sports and with construction on the orphanage if they are interested. As the program expands, there will also be opportunities in orphanages in the central city. Male volunteers will need to get a police check to participate in the program. Teaching English in Duy Tan University Volunteers teach English to classes on the Duy Tan University campus in central Da Nang. This program allows volunteers to contribute to the education of students from rural and urban areas. The teaching opportunities are in areas such as English for computers, English for tourism and English for business and accounting. For this program, volunteers are placed in a home stay. Volunteers for this program must have a college or university degree. Teaching English in Language Centres Volunteers teach in night classes to Vietnamese eager to improve their English language skills. The students are keen to learn English from native speakers. For this program, volunteers may be placed in rooms at the language centre or in a home stay.
